DUNKIRK: GERMAN OPERATIONS IN FRANCE 1940

This is another book from a German series written in the 1950's that has only more recently been translated into English. 

As most books on the German Blitzkrieg across Western Europe concentrate on the Allied side, this book provides the German point of view.
What makes it a more important book is that the author has been able to speak to leading German officers from that time and the book also quotes from German battle reports and personal diaries. 

As well as the successful German campaign, the infamous German 'halt order' that aided the Allies in their retreat and eventual evacuation from the beaches, is also given plenty of analysis. 

It is rare to get to read actual German assessments of the war. This has proved to be another fascinating book in a series that deserves to be far better known.

ROYAL NAVY FORCE H 1940-42 This is book 14 in Osprey's 'Fleet' series and is written by naval historian, Angus Konstam. If you have read any second world war books on the Mediterranean war and/or Malta, then it is highly likely that Force H and its well respected commander, V.Adm. Sir James Somerville, is mentioned. Based at Gibraltar, Force H patrolled both the Atlantic and the Western Mediterranean often escorting vital convoys to Malta. It was Somerville who led the fleet in the attack on the French fleet at Mers-el-Kébir and they would also be later involved in the hunt for the Bismarck.  As well as describing the fleet's ships, its commander and their wartime endeavors, the role and defences of Gibraltar is also covered.
