Books on the North African campaigns of WWII far outweigh what happened during the various campaigns fought in East Africa before and during the world war. 

In countries such as Ethiopia, Sudan and Eritrea, fierce battles were fought between the armies of the British and Italian Empires. 

Now this book provides us with a comprehensive account and most interestingly, from the Italian point of view.

The book begins with the history of Italy's Colonial rise in Eastern Africa, which followed the opening of Suez Canal.

With every chapter ending with an array of great photos, the narrative moves on to the rising tensions which soon end in conflict.

The descriptions of the many battles that were fought through the countries mentioned above are very comprehensive accounts. Also included are the stories of many Italian soldiers and officers who were commended for Italy's highest bravery awards. 

The Italian forces mostly faced a far stronger enemy force and were often fighting with a lack of logistical support from its own government.

Despite this, the narrative proves that they still gave a great account of themselves and revealed to me that the Italian soldier has not always earned the respect from history that they rightly deserved. 

I've really enjoyed reading this book, which has provided me with a greater knowledge of these lesser known campaigns and the reasons behind them. 

I now look forward to reviewing next the Italians in North Africa, in a book also from the same authors and publisher. ⬇️
