A SPITFIRE NAMED CONNIE

The author's father 'Robbie' Robertson was a second world war Spitfire pilot who was seriously injured in air combat over Tunisia in 1943 before somehow managing to crash land his stricken aircraft.
Segments of the book follows the period from this point and what happened to Robbie next, including his recovery and return to England. A period described with the aid of Robbie's diary and personal letters.

The other segment of the book,  woven into the narrative is focused on the hundreds of letters Robbie wrote from before he joined the war to a young woman called Connie.
Six years younger than Robbie,  their friendship would eventually blossom into romance. Following his return to England they would be married.
This book combines all this perfectly into a very touching story of love and war.

The hardback book is available now published by Air World, an imprint of Pen and Sword Books.

LUFTWAFFE INTRUDER OPERATIONS OVER THE UNITED KINGDOM  By Chris Goss.  Close to a relative's house in the Lincolnshire Wolds, there is a small memorial to the crew of a Lancaster lost on the night of 3/4th March 1945. Included in the dedication are the words;  'victim of a Luftwaffe intruder.' According to this book, this crew were sadly not the only fatalities that night. Over the course of the second world war, Luftwaffe night fighters would fly planned routes that would bring them close to RAF bases. If lucky, they would find an unsuspecting Allied bomber returning to base and/or would attack an airbase with its payload of bombs.
