STRINGBAGS IN ACTION
STRINGBAGS IN ACTION
BY Vice-Admiral B.B. Schofield.
This book brings together two short books written by the author who served in the Royal Navy during both world wars.
The first covers the Fleet Air Arm's raid on the Italian Navy at Taranto in November 1940 and the second covers the sinking of the German battleship, Bismarck, in the following May.
In both operations the Fairy Swordfish, known as the 'Stringbag', played a key part.
Both of these events have been covered in numerous books since these were originally published in the 1970's, yet I found both accounts to be highly readable. For anyone less familiar with either true story, I believe this book would be a perfect place to start. A great read.
The book is available now and published by Pen and Sword Books.
I thank P&S for this review copy.
