RAF IN CAMERA: 1960's

As the title suggests the focus with this 'decades' series is very much on photography with photos from the vast library of the Air Historical Branch. 
As author Keith Wilson says, the hardest part was what to leave out.

The book goes through the decades with a dedicated chapter for each year. Accompanying the photographs, Keith's narrative provides details of some of the key events involving the RAF, both at home and overseas.
From providing humanitarian aid and rescues following natural disasters, to even more hazardous roles in conflicts abroad such as in Indonesia. 

Sharing just a few examples, the 1960's would see the arrival of the Red Arrows, the first flight and the cancellation of the TSR-2 project and the service of Bomber Command's four-engined bombers being brought to a close.
The book is packed with so many different colour photographs of aircraft and whilst Keith has tried not to show bias, fans of the Lightning and Vulcan will definitely not be disappointed. 
I certainly wasn't. 

This is a beautiful and high quality publication that will have aviation fans reminiscing over some fabulous aircraft. A book that deserves a spot on that handy coffee table so as to repeatedly enjoy.

This is just one book in a series covering different decades of the RAF and I certainly look forward to browsing through the others as they become available. 
Highly recommended.

ROYAL NAVY FORCE H 1940-42 This is book 14 in Osprey's 'Fleet' series and is written by naval historian, Angus Konstam. If you have read any second world war books on the Mediterranean war and/or Malta, then it is highly likely that Force H and its well respected commander, V.Adm. Sir James Somerville, is mentioned. Based at Gibraltar, Force H patrolled both the Atlantic and the Western Mediterranean often escorting vital convoys to Malta. It was Somerville who led the fleet in the attack on the French fleet at Mers-el-Kébir and they would also be later involved in the hunt for the Bismarck.  As well as describing the fleet's ships, its commander and their wartime endeavors, the role and defences of Gibraltar is also covered. This is an added bonus as most books generally only give Gibraltar a passing mention.
