NIGHT FIGHTER ACES OF THE LUFTWAFFE 1943-45

Following on from their excellent first book covering the period 1940-43, the authors take us through the final years of the war that brought significant changes to the Nachtjagd. 

After the successes of attacking the aircraft of Bomber Command on nightly raids over Germany, the night fighters were not only adapting to fighting on both the Eastern and Western fronts, but were also being sent up to fly against the daytime raids of the USAAF. This would soon see an increase in losses of both pilots and aircraft. 
The Luftwaffe operations, 'Bodenplatte' and 'Gisela' are also covered. These two seperate raids were an increasingly desperate attempts to destroy as many Allied aircraft as possible in surprise attacks. Following huge losses, they would later be described as the German pilot's swansong.

Once again, this second book has proved to be a fascinating read and compliments the first book perfectly.
The narrative is accompanied with aircraft profiles, a great selection of photographs and some interesting charts/tables that provide the reader with a wealth of information. 
Another highly recommended book in Casemate's excellent 'Illustrated' series.

ROYAL NAVY FORCE H 1940-42 This is book 14 in Osprey's 'Fleet' series and is written by naval historian, Angus Konstam. If you have read any second world war books on the Mediterranean war and/or Malta, then it is highly likely that Force H and its well respected commander, V.Adm. Sir James Somerville, is mentioned. Based at Gibraltar, Force H patrolled both the Atlantic and the Western Mediterranean often escorting vital convoys to Malta. It was Somerville who led the fleet in the attack on the French fleet at Mers-el-Kébir and they would also be later involved in the hunt for the Bismarck.  As well as describing the fleet's ships, its commander and their wartime endeavors, the role and defences of Gibraltar is also covered. This is an added bonus as most books generally only give Gibraltar a passing mention.
